For pest control the Holiday Season means one thing: an increase in rodent calls. Why? Well, the main reason is because mice and rats are seeking shelter and warmth as the New England
winter weather hits. Rodents are unsightly, cause damage by gnawing holes and chewing wires and also expose humans to disease and other health hazards. Here are some tips to keep them out:
Seal Off Holes: Mice can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime so it is important to make sure all doors have door sweeps and that all piping and wiring leading into the home is sealed (we suggest foam our caulking from Home Depot, etc.)
Starve Them Out: Mice, like humans, need shelter, water and food to survive. If they are denied access to water sources and food they will end of leaving your home. This means making sure no food is left in the sinks or on the stoves overnight and the same goes for the dog/cat bowls, make sure all pet food and water is stored away at night.
Don’t Underestimate One Mouse: Many times one mouse can mean many more hiding in your walls. Don’t put off seeing just one mice. Inspect your home for mice droppings. Typical hot spots are behind the stove, behind the fridge, under the sink, the basement and the garage. Clean the droppings up and if the droppings continue to appear there is probably a nest somewhere.
